老外......我是台灣人應說 I'm a Taiwaner !

我問過老美老師這個問題，他的答案是字尾"ese"，是有點輕視的意思(但年輕的一輩已漸漸淡忘)，

或許古字典裡才查得到，不過既然別人都這樣說，就不彷改一改吧！

當多學一個單字， I am a Taiwaner not Taiwanese,I come from Taipei.

       英語稱呼另一種劣等民族時，就是把結尾用 ese，相同的 Japanese、Vietnamese也是就像我們叫老外阿多仔一樣，有一些輕視的味道。

      日本人早已不自稱Japanese，因為他們也知道這是不好的意思，於是他們自稱Janpanish.   Korean 他們就不用 ese 結 尾。但後來台灣人這個詞出現，不知道是誰開始用Taiwanese這種稱呼劣等民族的用語( 也許現在的英文老師也不知道)，就一直延用到今。

   這種歧視性的用法，我從很多老外口中証實。

建議大家把Taiwanese 這個詞，改成Taiwaner。

前兩天 xx 的英文老師告訴他們，以前英文教科書用法有錯誤，因為Chinese是鄙視的用法，聽說現在教科書將修正為Chinish， I.e. 要將『ese』改為『ish』，然Taiwaner也是可以的，從我第一次跟老外接觸到現在，我都說  I'm a Taiwaner. That means people from Taiwan.! Just like New Yorker.

我的老外朋友向別人介紹我時，也說：He's a Taiwaner，碰到不懂的，就補一句：Just like New Yorker, people from Taiwan .

你要讓別人知道你是臺灣來的，或許有更好的稱呼，但這個不錯。

為了台灣人民的國際形象，請大家詢問你的外國朋友確認以上的內容是否屬實，並踴躍轉告親朋好友試著改變說法！

 

對！應該說  〝I'm a Taiwaner〞(我是台灣人)

記得在1963年蘇聯想封鎖西柏林時，美國Kennedy 總統，為要打破西柏林的封鎖，刻意訪問西柏林。 當時他在西柏林發表演說時說出一句有歷史性的名言，說：〝Ich bin ein Berliner.〞「我是(一個)柏林人。」

柏林 (Berlin) 的結尾字母是 n， 台灣 (Taiwan)也是，由此，「我是台灣人」的英文應說 做〝I 'm a Taiwaner.〞是很合理而且順口。其實，由一個地方( 或一國)來稱呼那一個地方的人(或是那一國的人)的用字的形成， 在英文上是沒有一定的格式，而且很亂。 最主要是由變成習慣之後就沿用之。 Taiwaner 是有德語的味道。

住在台灣出國旅行的台灣人應說："I'm a Taiwaner." 或 "I'm from Taiwan."人家都聽懂，而且聽起來都很自然。

住在外國的台灣人應說 :  " I'm  from  Taiwan."

Interesting….
More Europeans know about Taiwan as Formosa not many Americans do.
I guess if we try to create a new name for Taiwan people, we can call ourselves anything…. If we want to introduce Taiwan to the world, we need a stander name so it will not confuse people more.
It is the same thing with all the crazy English road signs in Taiwan with different spellings.

I guess people are in tittle to their own opinion.
Here is my thought.

Most people cannot tell Taiwan from Thailand. I don’t think anyone knows the difference between Taiwanese and Taiwaner which is not even a word in dictionary.
To me it makes no sense to call ourselves Taiwaner which does not help to improve Taiwan image or make people more aware of Taiwan existence as a country in the world.

It seems this discussion has been around for a while….
